Is All-on-4 Right For You?

If you’re living with loose dentures, painful teeth, or missing teeth, dental implants can offer a long-term, fixed alternative. All-on-4 is designed to replace a full arch of missing or failing teeth, secured to dental implants beneath. In many cases, temporary teeth can be fitted within 24–48 hours of surgery, with your final teeth following once healing is complete.

Benefits of choosing implant-supported treatment could include:

  • Enjoying your favourite foods again
  • Speaking and smiling with ease
  • New fixed teeth that feel natural
  • No more slipping or clicking dentures

The Smile Designer offers long-term dental solutions designed for comfort and everyday function.

04

Ongoing Care

The Essentials

What Is All-on-4 Dental Implants?
All-on-4 gives you a fixed arch of teeth using just four dental implants. While a traditional dental
implant procedure requires 6–8 implants to replace all the teeth in a single row, All-on-4 revolutionises
this aspect of dental restoration. The Smile Designer provides All-on-4 in Melbourne to address teeth
functionality and smile-related concerns, allowing you to get an entire arch of teeth depending on your
individual clinical situation.
Who Can Get All-on-4?
Suitability for All-on-4 depends on your individual clinical situation, including jawbone density. Many
people missing most or all of their teeth in an arch, or struggling with loose or failing teeth, may be
suitable candidates. In many cases, people with lower jawbone density can still receive All-on-4 implants
after a bone grafting procedure. A consultation with our team is the best way to find out whether All-on-4
is suitable for you — see more in our article on
Am I a Candidate for All-on-4?
Tailored Treatment Planning
No two cases are the same. Our team works through a tailored treatment plan based on your jawbone
structure, remaining teeth, and overall clinical situation, so the approach and implant positioning are
specific to you.
All-on-4 Dental Implant Costs
The price of All-on-4 dental implants varies based on individual circumstance. There are two parts to the
procedure: the implants themselves, and the tooth bridge placed on top of them. The tooth bridge is what
usually impacts overall cost, as it can be made from a range of materials, each differing in price — see
the pricing table above for our current Acrylic and Zirconia options. We communicate costs clearly from
your first visit so you have a completely transparent experience with us.
How Long Does the Whole Process Take, Start to Finish?
The full process, from your first consultation through to your final bridge being fitted, typically spans
several months to allow proper healing between stages. For a detailed timeline breakdown, see our article
on how long the implant process takes.

Beyond the Basics

Good to Know

What Dental Implants Do You Use for All-on-4?
We use Nobel Biocare implants, the system that originally developed the All-on-4 protocol and remains one of the most researched and widely used implant systems worldwide. We use original Nobel Biocare components throughout treatment, rather than third-party or generic alternatives, so every part of your implant system is backed by the manufacturer’s own research, warranty, and long-term component support. Read the full story of how the All-on-4 protocol came about in our article on the history of All-on-4 and Nobel Biocare.
Is Sedation Available for All-on-4 Treatment?
Yes. We offer in-house sedation options for patients who would prefer to be more relaxed during treatment. During your consultation, our team will discuss which sedation option, if any, may be suitable for your procedure and overall health.
What if My Case is More Complex, or I Don’t Have Enough Bone?
Not every case is straightforward, and that’s okay. For patients who need more advanced procedures — such as zygomatic implants, pterygoid implants, extensive bone grafting, or sinus lifting — we work alongside a broader network of specialists and oral surgeons. If your case requires this level of care, we’ll refer you to the appropriate specialist’s office to ensure you receive the right treatment for your specific situation, then continue to coordinate your ongoing care with our team. Learn more about these procedures and how we manage complex cases in our article on All-on-4 for complex cases.
What is the Difference Between All-on-4, All-on-6, and All-on-X?
All-on-4, All-on-6, and All-on-X all describe the same general concept — a full arch of fixed replacement teeth supported by a smaller number of dental implants than traditional methods. The number refers to how many implants are used to support that arch. All-on-4 is suitable for many patients, but some cases benefit from additional implants for extra support. We’ll assess your individual bone structure and clinical situation to recommend the right number for you. For a closer look at how these options compare, see our article on All-on-4 versus All-on-6.
How Long is the Recovery After All-on-4 Surgery?
Recovery varies between patients, but most people manage initial discomfort with standard pain relief and are back to normal daily activities within one to two weeks. Full healing and integration of the implants with your jawbone takes longer — typically 3–4 months — before your final bridge is fitted. For a full breakdown of what to expect at each stage, see our article on All-on-4 recovery.
How Long Do All-on-4 Implants Last?
With proper care and regular check-ups, All-on-4 implants are designed to be a long-term solution. The titanium implants themselves can last many years, while the prosthetic teeth may need adjustment, relining, or replacement over time depending on wear and your individual circumstances. Read more in our article on how long All-on-4 implants last.
How is All-on-4 Different From Removable Dentures?
Unlike removable dentures, All-on-4 is fixed permanently to dental implants — it doesn’t come out, doesn’t rely on adhesives, and doesn’t shift or click while eating or speaking. See our full comparison in Removable Dentures vs All-on-4 Fixed Teeth.
What is a Zirconia All-on-4?
Zirconia is one of the final bridge material options we offer for All-on-4, known for its strength and natural appearance. Learn more in our article on What is a Zirconia All-on-4?
